You could be forgiven, if you thought I was in Far North Queensland. But I
am not. I’m in Melbourne. Actually further south of melb

Belief-O-Matic
At Belief-o-Matic, you answer 20 questions and get a list of how closely your beliefs align with those of 27 religions and denominations. It gets a tad ridiculous at the bottom where you learn how closely you match up with groups that would like nothing better than to burn you at the stake, but I found it accurate enough at the top. Here’s my top five.
1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (96%)
3. Liberal Quakers (79%)
4. Nontheist (77%)
5. Neo-Pagan (70%)
Let me know how you come out. (http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx)

Although I'm not one quizzes, the "neo-pagan" category made me chuckle.
Snow, I knew I was a bit weird, but I had no idea I was this far out of the ball park! Yowser! LOL! Thanks, that was fun and only proves that some people can't be labeled! Blessings!

2. Neo-Pagan (92%)
3. New Age (90%)
4. Liberal Quakers (87%)
5. Secular Humanism (78%)
Although I'd probably argue that #4 and 5 should be switched around.
Thanks for the link.
I tend to be a secular humanist, from way back.

3. Liberal Quakers (92%)
4. Neo-Pagan (90%)
5. New Age (83%)
But not identical.
Sarah: "Although I'm not one quizzes,"
But, Sarah, what if you had always thought, for example, that you were an atheist, and the test proved that you were actually a Mormon or a Pentecostalist. Wouldn't you want to know? I mean, you might need counseling or something. Of course, why FIND OUT that you need counseling if you don't already know it? Humm...maybe I shouldn't take quizzes either.
Sarah: "the "neo-pagan" category made me chuckle."
My dear Mainiac, neo-paganism is actually pretty popular, with Wicca being the most prominent of dozens of groups.
Marion, now that you know that your beliefs coincide 100% with those of mainstream Quakers, will it make any difference in your life? As I recall, Quakers are pretty scarce in Louisiana.
Angela: "My results were fairly accurate for the top 5"
Mine too. I don't know why they even list all 27. Jehovah's Witness? Come on!
Lakeviewer: "I tend to be a secular humanist, from way back."
Oh, come now. You're not THAT old!
Blog Fodder: "1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%) "
So, does this fit how you see yourself? I had taken you to be more toward the fundamentalist end of the spectrum, although you often do things that surprise hell out of me--like read Karl Marx.
Barry, most responders so far came out more liberal--if not outright secular--than I assumed they would. My assumption was based upon the fact that readers have often advised me from a religious perspective, but then again, I have noticed that a lot of those readers have fallen away, which saddens me as I never intend to alienate anyone.
Fascinating quiz. 1. Neo Pagan which surprised the heck out of me. I thought it would have been closer to Buddhism which was 2.
Cheers!

Learning Japanese for more than a year now might have been of influence, being a father of a two year old son as well.
A colourful weekend for you .
Snow, I thought I'd been a member of every mainstream religion in my life, but I don't think there's a Quaker in this state! LOL! Except for my box of Quaker Oats and the Quaker Oil people. I've never even heard of most of those religions and I study world religions. It was a fun quiz, though, and sort of accurate. But I don't even know what Quakers believe. Must look that up. I do know I'm 0% Mormon because my husband has a Mormon aunt and she drove us nuts for years shoving her beliefs down our throats and I do not believe even one letter of the "Book of Mormon". I do believe in God, Jesus, Buddha, Giving and Simplicity. You've made us all think and that's good. Blessings!
Very interesting !

Snowbrush, I came out of what I consider to be a very conservative funadmentalist Protistant background. My views on many things were too liberal for me to stay once my kids were grown enough to make their own decisions. But my understanding of and belief in the basics are unchanged.

Thanks all. I see that many of my readers are similar to me, religion-wise. I'm actually a little surprised, believe it or not.
Marion: "I don't think there's a Quaker in this state!"
Why, Marion, Louisiana Quakers are thicker than chicken teeth...or maybe I should have said chicken scat...or maybe something between the two. Anyway:

hopefully i'll get back here to comment further
my wordiness has evaporated and all i have to say is i'm glad it picked me as a liberal. conservative christianity is something i am not a fan of.
sorry to see you woke in pain, snow. i always wonder how sufferers of chronic pain get by and then a few weeks back i tore a muscle in my back. it's better now but it was without question the worst thing i have ever been through, healthwise. i gives me an even greater respect for you. pain is so exhausting and it reduces life to survival.
i hope things go well for you

I took this test a couple of years ago but have forgotten what the results were, so I started taking it again, but I quit after just a few questions because some of the choices I leaned toward did not really describe my beliefs. For the record, I am a Jewish-Metho-Bapti-costal with definite leanings toward certain Lutheran/Anglican/RCC/EO beliefs, all of which contradict one another. In other words, I am a real mess, but Jesus loves me anyway. Thanks for asking.
Kylie: "i always wonder how sufferers of chronic pain get by and then a few weeks back i tore a muscle in my back"
I raked the yard three days ago and have hardly slept since for pain in both shoulders. Every time I think I'm making progress (as in my previous post), my hopes get squashed, and I see myself as having been rather silly to have even dared to think optimistically. As for how chronic pain sufferers get by, the secret probably lies in not seeing any good options. When everything one tries to do short of suicide fails, then what's left but to carry on? As you say though, it gets awfully tiring. Last week, when I thought I was making progress, the world seemed to take on a glow, and I felt twice as energetic.
Rhymes: "I am a real mess, but Jesus loves me anyway."
Well....Jesus remains dead so far as I can determine, but I've noted that, 2,000 years after the fact, there is still a great deal of disagreement about anything whatsoever to do with his life. It's one of those situations in which people can but agree to disagree, and hopefully go on to live with mutual goodwill and even affection.
Hi Snowbrush,
I recently found your blog through a link from another blog. I like the exchange of thought-provoking ideas here; will have to follow more often. This quiz was too intriguing to pass up...
My top results:
1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Secular Humanism (88%)
3. Liberal Quakers (88%)
4. Neo-Pagan (85%)
5. New Age (80%)
6. Theravada Buddhism (72%)
7. Mahayana Buddhism (71%)
8. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (71%)
9. Taoism (65%)
10. Nontheist (60%)
Only two surprises:
"Liberal Quaker," although after reading the description, I didn't realize it was so undogmatic and left so much room for individual belief. And commitment to nonviolence probably bumped it up some.
"Neo-Pagan" was also a bit of a surprise.
I'm going to totally do it, looks fun.
And no three wishes because I am an angel/angel not a angel/genie.
Love Renee xoxoxo

OK this is where things get weird. Here I am, local Rev. in mainline Protestant Canadian church.
As I read through the questions in the process, I thought the questions were pretty strange -- not descriptive of my faith at all. So the answers were pretty skewed, too -- no surprise there.
1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (94%)
3. Secular Humanism (93%)
4. Liberal Quakers (92%)
5. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (89%)
I think this says more about the test than it says about me. I am disappointed by the process and distrust the results.
Bah. Humbug! Don't waste your time on it! You can trust the Bear on this one.
Snowman- It said I was neo ahmish with militant muslim tendencies. What does that mean??~rick

These are my 70% and above labels....I don't think of myself as any of them...I attend the Positive Living Ctr. or Science of Mind meetings..The sign in the sanctuary says, "only love spoken here"...which is probably how I try to live...TRY is the key word here. So, I'm for any group/religion that promotes sending out positive energy and sees our potential, and not so enthusiastic about religions that promote judgments. Each of us has our 'stuff' to deal with and if we could all just get over ourselves and really, really want the best for each other, get in a place of compassion and empathy, instead of looking at our differences life would be so very good...not that it isn't, but us humans leave a lot of room for improvement..in my humble opinion peace
Hello, and pleased to make your acquaintance! Thank you for visiting my blog party...I am not even going to ask WHY you were able to quote that little diddy of a poem by memory!!! **happy smiles** Deborah
I answered these questions on Belief-o-matic some months ago. Although I can't remember the exact results, I too came out as a Secular Humanist, if not 100%, close to that. I was not surprised at that and not surprised that Unitarian and Nontheist were also near the top, but somewhere near the top ---maybe number 10 or so --- was Jehovah Witness. Say, what? I am an atheist, but if I were forced to choose a Christian sect, Jehovah Witness would be near the bottom of my list along with anything promoted by Pat Robertson or his ilk.
I had that website on my list of things to write about on my blog, but have put it off for months. Someday....
