Donald Trump's inauguration; the beauty of my bedroom; the solace of
nearby Mt. Pisgah; and the affection of Peggy, our cats, and some of
you, are like islands in a stormy sea. What I would like to do right now is to share a pleasant post that I have been working on
for weeks about my bedroom. Unfortunately I feel ethically compelled to first apologize to you for what is
happening in America. I'm especially concerned about the feelings and opinions of
readers who live in Britain, Canada, Australia, India, and—prior to the invasion—Ukraine
(https://dablogfodder.blogspot.com/). It is they who constitute nearly
all of my active readership, and this is what I want them to know:
(1) I am ashamed of what my nation has become, and I am frightened that it will continue its hellish dissent into totalitarianism.
(2) I cannot divorce my personal identity from my national identity.
(3) I worry that my non-American readers will also be unable to divorce my personal identity from my national identity, and that this will lead them to abandon me.

Only a callous, arrogant, petty, and vicious nation, could elect a
demon like Trump and stand passive while he destroys its democracy.
Although offering you my apology might seem pointless, I don't know what else to do, and it is surely better to apologize than to behave as though everything were
normal.

We know it’s not you. And I’m sure most of your countrymen are angry, embarrassed or just mortified.
When someone says what everyone wants to hear. They get elected. He has duped many people. Unfortunately it might just be too late to fix it now
Those of us who are not in your country but yet feel your pain, do not blame the decent citizens of a country where chaos reigns. We are not smug in our thoughts that, lucky it is not us. It could well be.
I have been horrified too, Snow, and embarrassed, apologetic. Especially about how our friends are being treated, Canada and Ukraine in particular, but all. Turning our backs on them, berating and demeaning our allies and friends, what in the world has America become. One of the European leaders said after the Ukraine incident that we need a new leader of the free world. I knew what he meant and the fear that we are not long to be part of the free world tied a knot inside me.
It's such a national embarrassment. And sadly, those that should be most ashamed are enjoying all of this. Sigh.
I am having the overwhelming feeling that the next four years are not the end of this insanity. And that is truly terrifying.
Whoever gave a couple of schoolyard bullies the keys to the free world?
Its not very Christian of me but at this point I am hoping for an assassination

While it would take years to fix much of what he has already destroyed, if enough people turn against him, the only way he can stay in power will be to turn the guns of the military upon his own people, and while I'm convinced that he would do this, I don't know that he would deem it feasible.

I initially misread apologetic as apoplectic, and then had the thought that it too surely applies.

America is increasingly becoming a reflection of a monster named Trump.

I understand. It's a waking nightmare. Who would have thought it possible that millions of Americas would celebrate what millions of other Americans consider the death of our country?

They are represented by a smiling Musk with a chainsaw and by Vance and Melania chortling as an Episcopal bishop implored the president to show compassion to the frightened. They are the same people who used to praise our dead veterans for having given their lives for democracy.

Maybe Trump will behave so foolishly and so viciously that America will turn on him, but then again, maybe he is what America wants
